The first outdoor time trial of the year. Conditions were cold and not conducive to fast times but 60 people showed up for the 20k TT. My start time was 9:12 so there were plenty of people to try to chase down. Kyle Lyman started a minute behind me and I knew it was matter of when, not if, he would pass me. Kyle did the race on a road bike with clip ons. Team Dayton needs to get him a time trial bike, sky's the limit with this guy.
Anyway, it took about 11 minutes for Kyle to pass me, but by that time I had already passed two riders. I hit the turn a little slower than I would have liked, in route to an over time that I wasn't really thrilled with but it turned out to be the fastest time in the 30-39 age group and 4th fastest overall. My average was 23.8 mph. I beat Jim Matson by one second where he beat me by a couple of minutes at the final TT of 2008. I had never beat him before. That's one more checked off the list of people I've never beaten in a TT. Hopefully more will fall.
I ended last season with a time trial win, so it was nice to start this year off with one. Overall, my power was low and my time was slow, but given my (lack of) training and the weather conditions, I'll take it. This was also my first real run with the new position. I like it. More aero, less power required at previous speeds and less sliding to the front.
Next up as far as time trials go is Blue Streak. Next (first) road race is in 13 days at Hueston Woods.
